DOGE Can’t Fix This

Anybody willing to serve in the public eye has my respect. My congressman here in Massachusetts is a veteran and shows a passion in supporting his values. On March 11th, I was part of a crowd to meet with him in Fall River, Massachusetts.
The typical format was used. He spent a few minutes lauding his by-partisan work to get some bills passed, then went on an entirely partisan streak. He was going to be a fighter against the unconstitutional attacks on spending from ‘King’ (his word) Trump, and his unelected minion, Elon Musk.
Surprisingly, he brought up how Republicans stopped a Democrat bill from fixing the border. A well published change in leadership making that fix happen was apparently not on his reading list.
Okay partisan and politics seem inseparable in today’s public arena. I was able to ask a question, so I tossed him an intended bipartisan issue. I asked about his support for an Article V convention of states. I hoped to highlight how popular and safe this would be. A great bipartisan effort, or so I thought.
Representative Auchincloss delivered his response clearly and forcibly, as is his manner. He was not going to tolerate the “MAGA crowd” attacking and changing the Constitution. He saw himself as the protector of American values against an onslaught of far-right activists.
Ignorant on a number of counts, sure. But I really can’t judge him too harshly. What is he actually hearing? In Congress do you hear a Massachusetts Democrat representative in our General Court is proposing an AV convention of states? (Rep. Carmine Gentile, HD248)
In Washington, would you know Massachusetts has officially recommended an Article V convention? (MA Citizens Commission, 2019)
Apparently, although I cannot fathom this, you can ignore the polling data that consistently shows a large majority want term limits. They want more sane Federal budgeting. They prefer local government versus national. The voice my congressman listens to does not seem to be constituents, at least not on this topic.
DOGE can’t fix this. Our voice has to get into the halls of Congress, as well as our State Houses. It has to be recognized as a ‘We The People”, American voice. We need to step out of our ‘bubble’ and engage in broader social media venues and sites…not just those that agree with us. Our voice needs to be known by our local representatives and our neighbors.
DOGE can’t fix this, but we can.
